Life Legacy


John D. Norris, age 91, of 16517 Bennington CT., Granger, In, died at 11:26 am, Sunday, May 1, 2011, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka. He had been in ill health for 1 year.


He was born March 21, 1920 in Parrish, Alabama to John Julian and Roxie Ann Files Norris. His first marriage was to Thelma West May 10, 1944 in Birmingham, Alabama, she preceded in death March 25, 1995. His 2nd marriage was to Anna Harkins August 15, 1995. She preceded in death in 2007. Mr. Norris had lived in Granger for the last 4 years. He was a WW II Navy Veteran. He had been a coal miner and had worked at American Motors. He was a former Motel owner in Spring City, TN. He was a member of the Shrine Lodge in Birmingham, AL and the First Baptist Church in Spring City, TN.


He is survived by daughters, Sharon (Mike) Thompson, Niles, MI, Carol (Dwight) Collier, Granger, grandchildren, Jeremy Alan Thompson, Jennifer Roxanne Thompson, John Justice (Mandy) Collier, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Ellette Land, Margie Flemming, and Gertrude Pate, and brothers, Otto, Oscar, Paul, Leo, and RC Norris.


Friends may call Tuesday 5-7 at the Nappanee Missionary Church Chapel followed by services at 7:00 pm. Officiating will be Pastor Norm Reimer. Visitation in Alabama will take place Saturday 12 – 2 pm at the Crestview Funeral Home in Adamsville followed by funeral services at 2:00 pm. Officiating will be Rev. Justin Dunlap and Rev. Hugh Thomas. Burial with Military Graveside services will be in Crestview Cemetery.
