Life Legacy
L. Max Newcomer, age 82, of 8356 W. Hepton Rd., Nappanee, died at 11:35 am, Saturday, September 11, 2010 at The Maples in Goshen, where he had resided for 2 months after an extended illness He was born September 9, 1928 in New Paris to Maurice and Ellen Krull Newcomer. He lived his lifetime in this area. He was a 1946 graduate of New Paris High School. On December 30, 1950 he married Patricia Replogle in Syracuse. She preceded him in death February 17, 1996. He married Bonnie Reaker on August 5, 2000.
Mr. Newcomer was a long time worker in the Kitchen Cabinet Industry in Nappanee. He had worked at Mutschler Brothers and Nappanee Wood Products. He retired in 1991. He also farmed.
Mr. Newcomer was a member of Mt. Tabor Church of God. He had been a Union Township 4-H leader and a former Union Township Assessor. He was an avid bowler, and enjoyed fishing and camping and spending winters in Florida.
Mr. Newcomer is survived by his wife, Bonnie, a daughter, Sue (Doug) Purdue, Goshen, sons, Ryan (Valerie), Bristol, Wayne (Jackie), Lafayette, Tracy (Delores), Nappanee, and Dale (Phyllis), New Paris, a stepdaughter, Sheri (Tom) Bradway and a stepson, Steve (Kim) Reaker both of Nappanee, 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, a brother, Carl Eugene , Nappanee, and sisters, Joanne (Richard) White, LaGrange, and Carol (Jeffery) Hope, Elkhart. He was preceded in death by a sister, Janet Schlemmer.
Friends may call at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee from 2-4 and 6-8 on Wednesday. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am, Thursday, Sept. 16 at Mt. Tabor Church of God. Rev. Stan Owen will officiate assisted by Rev. Janet McFall-Brown. Burial will be in Union Center Cemetery.
